I haven't officially told any of the people I'll be working with about my narcolepsy. I have a day tomorrow to kind of get my head around it all before the kids come back on Tuesday. I think I'll tell my head teacher tomorrow, and then if there's anyone else she thinks I should tell then I'll do that too. I don't have an incredibly intense schedule, thank goodness, which means there will be, say, a period every day where I can either sit at my desk or in a practice room and just nod off. What's slightly concerning is that 3 out of the 5 weeks are exam weeks, and in leiu of teaching classes I will be supervising exams. Last time I did that I just about slept through the whole process... could be interesting....
This Sleep book I keep delving in and out of has been really quite interesting. It's really well written, and talks about so many different kinds of sleep disorders. My favourite one is named 'Exploding Head Syndrome'. HA!!! There are people who hear inordinately loud noises just as they're dropping off to sleep, noises along the lines of a car back-firing, or a cymbals crash or something. It makes the process of going to sleep difficult and laced with anxiety. How fascinating!!! There's all sort of other ones, like sleeptalking and walking and eating and arousal. It's just that there's so little known about it, thus making it harder to manage, or fix.
Fear not, Exploding Headers, or sleeptalkers, or insomniacs. You are not alone in your crazy ridiculous sleeping habits. There are plenty of other people just as weird as you!!!
