Perhaps it should be renamed 'narcatlepsy'.

Whoops!! It's been over a month since my last rant. I guess nothing much has changed, still the same kind of work/sleep/life frustrations.
Had a spectacular 4 day weekend just now - regular weekend, plus Queen's birthday, plus a rostered day off. Woo!! The best part about it was the 10 - 12 hours of sleep I got EVERY NIGHT. Total gangsta sleeping. Then I totally rooted it all last night by having an absolute crap night's sleep - brain on high rotation, basically, and I just couldn't switch off. I probably had a few hours in there but not enough to be truly awesome. So annoying!! It's almost as if the last four nights never happened. Been managing fairly well with work and sleep lately. Had a talk with my head teacher which revealed a lot of the reasons why I find working there slightly... not hostile, but high tension. Part of it was things I needed to change - be more sociable with the faculty etc., which is fine. I think she's now coming to grips with what 'part-time teacher' means and isn't so frustrated about the fact that I'm only here part time (you'd think the title would imply the meaning but...) so I feel like I'm more on the same page with her now. I'll never be her clone, which is kind of what she wants, but that's ok. I think there's a bit of hostility towards me from one of the other teachers here who's been here a long time, which makes things a little more difficult too. I can cope with that though - I care about how my immediate employers perceive me, and it seems that my head teacher understands me a lot more now. If the other teachers in the faculty don't like me, well, what can I do?? Do my job like a boss and that's about it. Finished uni too. Yay!! Well, for the semester. No marks back yet, but soon. Hoping for at least a credit, maybe a distinction?? That would be nice. Nice to know I can handle it, though!! Rather than fail miserably like my other attempts in years gone by. I've been taking the scenic road to work in the last week or so and it's awesome. Amazing birds everywhere. Thus far I've seen eastern and crimson rosellas, king parrots, rainbow lorikeets, huge black swans flying overhead, a pair of beautiful yellow tail black cockatoos, galahs, corellas, huge magpies and currawongs, a white faced heron, blue winged kookaburras... and a random kangaroo in a paddock (that was this morning). Getting my bird fix is nice... haven't had the time or the energy to go to a national park or something. I really should!! But it's so coooolllddd.... So, in summary... just pottering along really. Only 2.5 weeks of term left, first semester of uni is finished, I haven't killed myself or someone else while driving... and I'm reasonably happy!! All the while sleeping when I can, with or without my cat, with occasional disturbances from my somniloquying partner (sometimes I wish I was more awake when they happened because damn they are funny.) Isn't it nice to be positive once in a while?? |
