Last night was a spectacular night for humidity enthusiasts. Sleep absolutely SUCKS during a hot night, for so many reasons. And each of the following reasons was present at some point during my crappy attempt at sleep last night:
- Obviously, it's hot. I'm usually more likely to overheat during the night, so if it's hot to start with, well then I'm just over-achieving.
- In order to make it less hot, we have the fan on at night. The good thing about the fan is that it, sometimes, can cool a room down a little bit. The bad thing is that if it on a setting any higher than 'low', it's too loud and it makes my throat really dry during the night, usually meaning I wake up around 2am randomly coughing up dust. Even if my brain manages to drown out the sound of the fan, I become conscious of it every hour or so, which annoys me and wakes me up even more. So, to conclude, the fan remains on during the night, but only on low, which means... it doesn't do much at all.
- When I'm hot, or overheat, I get spectacular nightmares. Real rip-snorters, you know, where everyone is dying, or someone/thing is coming to kill you, or you're covered in spiders etc. After the nightmares, I then wake up, covered in sweat usually, and have to spend a good 20 minutes having a serious talk with myself, assuring myself that there are no spiders/armed ninjas/dinosaurs/raging psychopaths in the room, or in the house. It makes for a difficult night's sleep.
- Aside from these things, when you sleep next to another person, you also get to experience their humid night activities, and last night I got to witness a plethora of somnambulatastic displays. I'm pretty sure my partner turned his light on at least twice last night, both times assuring me, "I'll turn the light out now," in whispered tones. He got up a few times too, or at least sat on the side of the bed. Had a few chats to himself. Did a bit of dancing. Generally seemed to have a good time. When questioned this morning, he said he had no recollection of any of it. AARGGHGHSLDKFJLASDKFJ
So. A humid night in the life of a narco... generally to be avoided at all costs.
