I had an absolutely BIZARRE one last night, which is what made me think to write about this stuff. It involved Kevin Rudd (our prime minister), a very odd looking Sydney Harbour and a whole bunch of people watching a house where K-Rudd was apparently murdering someone. Then I was trying to make my way out of the place but all the concrete sections kept moving around and I had to climb up things and around people and it was just weird.
I'm not really the type of person who looks too heavily into dreams. Obviously, I don't take them literally. I possibly dreamt about that stuff because Kevin's been in the news a lot lately, and I've also been watching a lot of Law and Order - Criminal Intent (the early years, when Goren was weird and not old). Everything else is just my brain doing what it does best. At least in this one I could really understand that it was most definitely not real. Some of my dreams are SO real that it can confuse me as to whether I've dreamt it or not. Last year, before I went to Canada, I had a dream that I was actually IN Canada (I had never been there before). When I woke up, it actually took me a few minutes to get out of the fog and realise that I had just dreamt it, I wasn't in Canada yet. It was disheartening to say the least.
Quite possibly the weirdest thing about my dreaming is that I can kind of control it. I don't really know the science behind my state of consciousn while sleeping - if I am actually making conscious decisions regarding what I see etc - but I seem to be able to rewind stuff in my dreams and watch it again, or when the dream story is going in a certain way that I don't like I can change it... but I don't think I'm conscious. I definitely 'wake up'. Sometimes when I'm dreaming something I really don't like I force myself to open my eyes so I can physically realise that what I'm dreaming IS a dream. Otherwise I just frighten myself.
I generally don't tell people about my dreams. I remember someone saying that the only thing more boring than your own dreams is hearing someone else talking about their dreams. And it's true, mostly!! Although sometimes people can come up with some ripper stuff. Like the giant chocolate sundae I dreamt about earlier in the year. Oohhhh that was goooooood.
